RBB Letter to Samantha Power on Solidarity and Support in Condemning the massacre of innocent Civilians in Democratic Republic of Congo
June 08 2023
The Honorable Samantha Power
Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development
Dear Madam Ambassador,
The Rwanda Bridge Builders (RBB) a platform of Rwandan civil society organizations and opposition political parties in exile has followed with keen attention your statement on violence in Eastern DRC and would like to express its heartfelt admiration for your recent condemnation of the appalling massacre of civilians perpetrated by the Rwandan Defense Forces under the disguise of M23 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Your public denouncement of the heinous acts committed against innocent civilians reflects not only your moral compass but also your unwavering dedication to promoting peace, justice, and the well-being of all people.
The RBB takes this opportunity to extend its deepest solidarity and unwavering support to you.
Your condemnation should send a powerful message not only to the International Community, so that it can take action and hold accountable those responsible for such acts of violence, but also to the Rwandan regime under the leadership of Paul Kagame to give priority to dialogue in order to resolve any differences and disputes by peaceful means.
The RBB is not at all surprised by the arrogant response from the Kigali regime through its spokesperson, Mrs. Yolande Makolo, criticizing you for failing to address the real causes of insecurity in the DRC. The RPF regime has always resorted to intimidations and violence to resolve conflicts because of the tacit support from the International Community that has turned a blind eye to atrocities committed by RPF in Rwanda and in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The RBB would like to echo the response of His Excellency President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi to a Rwandan journalist, in which he said that the real cause of insecurity in the DRC is the current Rwandan regime because in the past, Zaire has enjoyed good relationship with previous Rwandan governments.
The RBB considers that it is high time for the International Community to put an end to the endless suffering endured by Congolese people, the people inside Rwanda and Rwandan refugees that the Kigali regime continues to use as scapegoat to invade the DRC. In the same vein, RBB would like to call upon countries that continue to support the dictatorial regime in Kigali to apply the necessary pressure on Kagame to engage in an inclusive dialogue with his opposition in order to resolve the thorny problem of Rwandan Refugees.
Once again, The Rwanda Bridge Builders (RBB) thanks you for your resolute stance against this terrible Rwandan proxy war. May your efforts continue to shed light on the darkest corners and bring about the change we so desperately need.
With deepest respect and support,
June 08 2023
Ambassador Jean Marie Ndagijimana
