Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Pretoria, South Africa for a two-day official visit.
The plane carrying the President and his delegation touched down at Waterkloof Airforce Base shortly after 4.00 p.m. local time.

He was received by senior South Africa government officials and Kenyans living in Pretoria led by Kenya’s High Commissioner to South Africa Amb. Patrick Wamoto.

The President will be attending the Joint Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the International Conferenceon the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) Summit of Heads of State and Government.

The Summit, to be held at OR Tambo conference centre, will discuss the new political, economic, cultural and social challenges facing Africa in general and particularly the Great Lakes region.

High on the Summit’s agenda is the latest wave of fighting between M23 and DRC forces in eastern Congo, leading to the displacement of Congolese civilians to refugee camps in Uganda and Rwanda.

Presidents Yoweri Museveni, Paul Kagame, Salva Kiir and Joseph Kabila are some of the leaders expected in South Africa today ahead of tomorrow’s Summit.

Uganda Media Centre boss, Ofwono Opondo today afternoon confirmed that Museveni had flown to South Africa for the conference.

Kenyatta is accompanied to the Summit by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed among senior government officials.
